For my senior capstone class, I designed a public marketplace along Portland’s Willamette river. The marketplace is an undulating building that mimics the riverfront and allows for views to the downtown across the river. Located close to public transit, the five entrances promote pedestrian access and walkability. The market place features fresh produce and baked goods stalls, along with a number of vendors popular to Portland.
This project involved an early site analysis and study of physical constraints (an overpass and 40-foot height limit), precedent studies, schematic design, program analysis, vendor floor plan and circulation diagrams. I also worked with another architecture student and a structural engineering student to design the structural system of the building.
