For my senior capstone class, I designed a public marketplace along Portland’s Willamette river. The marketplace is an undulating building that mimics the riverfront and grants spectacular views of the downtown across the river. Close to public transit, the five entrances promote pedestrian access and walkability. The marketplace features fresh produce and baked goods stalls, along with a number of vendors popular to Portland.
This project involved an early site analysis and study of physical constraints (an overpass and 40-foot height limit), precedent studies, schematic design, program analysis, vendor floor plan, circulation diagrams and structural facade and roof design.
